Rear sway bar bolts - county

The rear sway bar bolts on the county are stuffed - badly worn/rusted etc.
They appear to have a shoulder on them, but hard to tell if its a manufactured one or just the result of wear.

Anyone know if they are a special bolt, or whether they can be replaced with a normal high-tensile one (they have 8.8 on the heads).

Hi mate, which bolts are you talking about? there's no way there should be any wear on the sway bar mounting bolts ?

When in doubt use hi tensile bolts, for the extra few cents why not - even if the design doesn't require the extra strength, just buy hi tensile and sleep easy

IMO - Just get rid of the whole sway bar thing anyway

These are the bolts that go from the sway bar to the small link on the rear axle.
They go through the end of the sway bar, and through 2 bushes in the link.

I've cleaned them up and had a bit closer look. They are either a special shouldered bolt, or a normal one with a steel sleeve on it to go through the middle of the bushes. I cant tell without being a bit more destructive, and I don't want to limit my options for putting it back together if I cant get hold of bolts easily.

Have to replace the bushes as they were picked up on RWC inspection, so removing the bar isn't an option.
Just need to find out if I need to visit a LR parts place, or just my local bolt shop.

I'm pretty sure they are a special bolt. I replaced the bushes / bolts on my county and at the time of purchase, I seem to recall the guy at mr automotive saying they were a special item. Probably worth checking with your supplier.

I used to run a high tensile bolt and used a lynch pin and washers instead of nut. This allowed me to do a quick disconnect when offroad and zip tie the bar out of the way.

The Disco1 has a special bolt too with no thread going through the bushes. There are plenty of those in wrecking yards.
Make sure you use new nyloc nuts though as they will unwind themselves very quickly if you don't....

Local LR parts place has some in stock, and only a few $$ each with new nuts/washers. Will pick some up at lunchtime.
