Interesting that ARB don't know what their bar weighs.
Hi Guys
have done a fair bit of searching on this but i was wondering what a defender ARB winch roo bar would weigh?
The reason being is that as i'm about to replace my shockies and put a steering guard on and will no doubt follow up with springs, im going to remove my ultra heavy duty ally bar and weigh it.. then i can gauge how much different to a steel bar it is.. and hence what sort of springs i'll be looking at to bring the front up to normal height..
by the way it looks like a custom built ally bar made from 6 & 8mm ally 8mm being the mount points on all 4 sides of the chassis rails and ribs and 6mm being the general construction material. Its a beast really.. im pretty sure it could hold a winch behind it.. but i'll look at putting a tray there instead
Thanks
Steve

Around 40kg? from memory for arb winch bar-I weighed mine as I was worried about gvm when replacing alloy bar (which weighed 18kg? fitted to standard bumper- I think) was a couple of years ago

Id say about 40-50 kgs.
I helped a mate install an ARB winch bar on his Patrol on the weekend, id say it wouldnt be too different.
The old stlye ARB with round tubes on my RRC was 44Kg.

I'll bet ARB DOES know but doesn't advertise the fact for fear of putting people off.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Did you find out the weight of the bar 5teve? I have my one off my car at the moment if you want to weigh it. (I think I'm just up the road from your work).
Cheers,
HI Tim
Took it off at the weekend, as a bare bar, no spots bolts etc etc and no indicators the ally bar comes in at 27kg! thats one serious ally bar!
so all up i will probably have 50kg with the steering guard (when i can get it to fit) and the bar... maybe a bit more including all the additional lights etc.
if i ever get a winch i'll probably have to uprate the front springs tho.. i think they are cheap enough that i can go new fronts now and then new ones later..
While i was taking the bar off... i also noticed that the wiring was very dodgy. so back to the never ending list of things to do!
Thanks for the offer... appreciate it!
