Best Place Wing top chequer plate Kit for PUMA 130 & Questions

Folks where in Australia is the cheapest spot to buy a Black wing top chequer plate kit for my 130 PUMA ?

also what is the safest/best method of installation to avoid rust ? and what company closest to Ballarat Vic, would do a really professional job of putting the kit on ?

    Cheers Paul.

All of the information, reports, comments, etc that I have read, indicate that the quality of the chequer plate varies (eg Defender2 - View topic - Differences in Chequer plate). The conclusion seems to be that the best is the original and quite a few people have lamented that they had opted for cheaper plate when they should have opted for the Land Rover original even though it was dearer. I understand there is also an issue with some after market wing top plates fouling with the Puma bonnet. Sorry Paul if I am raising issues with which you are already familiar.

    Cheers

LRA wanted over $1000 to fit them so I gave it a miss.

Now thinking I will check price for LR ones (from spare parts?) and if price is affordable fit them myself.

There are threads here somewhere about the LR and after-market plates.

I do not have any experience with any for a Puma but I recently put some on my 300 tdi. They look to be 2.5 mm thick checker plate and fit the curves nicely and match the profile well.
I'm about 120 kg and there is minimal flex and no denting when I stand on them.
I got mine through Opposite Lock who source them through Dolium and I'm happy with them and will probably put them all the way around eventually.

My new 130, got the Land Rover Genuine Black Wing tops, for the sum of 1000k, before i had a set from MR Automotive for $240, these were good, and easy to fit, and well suited to a 14 year old Defender, but not a patch on the LR ones, these are alot better made. If i were putting wing tops on a older Defender, i would go with MR any day.......

    Hope thats of help..

    Hi
Recently purchased and installed myself black powder-coated wings for my 2009 PUMA Defender. Got them from Rovacraft in Ferntree Gully (mid $200's for pair from memory). Very nice finish with stainless steel flush-finish bolts and came with foam gaskets.
Easy to fit although no instructions; about 2 hours as I did myself through some guesswork. The only pain with the puma is that there is virtually no access from the engine bay except for the rear bolts toward the windscreen where it narrows. The front headlights need to be removed to access the front bolts which is the time-waster. Can access through the open grill on one side too.
Suggest you drill and bolt one hole at a time starting from the narrow section toward the windscreen - as you tighten it will flatten against the body (I predrilled all five holes on one side first, as they tightened they misaligned and I had to re-drill). Learned my lesson for the other side!
    Hope this helps!

Else ULR in Port Melbourne have a special for pair installed around $860 I recall last time I was in there.

My understanding is that the Land Rover roduct is anodised rather than powder coated.
