Water retained in lower spring mounts

Hi,
with the tray off, I noticed water was being retained in the lower spring mounts on both sides.
Is this normal?
Seems like a potential rust trap.



On a slightly different note, on loosening a long bolt and nut on the passenger's side at the back of the cab to mount a side step, water ran out from around the bolt.
Again a potential rust trap, no photos of that though, it was getting dark and flippin' cold.

Comments?, suggestions? etc

Austar, I checked my 130 and it's the same I have some wet mud in there, anyone got a fix? There is no way for water to escape should be a donut style piece of metal there.

That the lower mount on diff? Seems normal,
corrugations will fix that or incline 45" after washing(?)- shouldn't be a problem unless left sitting for extended period or alot of beach work. my 110's 15years old and not rusting there yet, polyairs will also displace that water

I've never seen a rusty one, even ex west coast vehicles...

Have you fited the extended fuel tank breather yet? Good time to do it with tray off.

yes, did that, much easier than mucking about under the tray - thanks.

I have now got the spare tyre mounted as I wanted, and had some old side steps chromed and they are now fitted. Link
