    Ignition Lock Sticking

    Hi All
The Disco's ignition lock is sticking every so often I checked the price of a new assembly which is very expensive and now I want to know if you can put graphite powder into it to see if that helps or is there somthing else that i can do.

A known problem and a simple fix if you are mechanically inclined

the security clamp bolts possibly need cutting and the lock does need dismantling and remember that the tumblers have to be retained by sticky tape or springs and tumblers from the barrel can go everywhere

it does not need a replacement barrel - the burrs can be polished off the existing tumblers

if you're not confident to do it yourself a local tame friendy locksmith should be able to help (I know that they know the problem well in Armidale) in an hour or two

The clamp bolts have threads, you can undo them by tapping the heads around with a hammer and a flat screwdriver,
Once you crack the threads you can use your fingers

Remove the locking device, I hate them and render them useless in all my cars, after having one lock on full tilt sideways into a car size culvert, they all die

try spraying some PTFE sray into the lock and operating the key many times to distribute the compound around the inside of the lock, before it all dries. The stuff is amazing, It's actually teflon, and will dry lube many things. The local locksmith put me on to it. Don.

    Hi All
Well I have removed the lock assembly from the Disco and used contact cleaner to clean inside the barrel it was amazing how much rubbish came out of the barrel a lot of small filings and grot seemed to work OK then have put the lot back together and all going well at the moment. Don what is PTFE spray and I gather I can get it at a locksmiths when I rang the local ones in Forster yesterday they did not want to know me once I said it was a Land Rover guess they will no get anymore business from me. How do you get the barrel out of the assembly
    Regards
    Doug
