Persistant swivel pin housing leak
My 2007 puma has had a RH swivel leak fixed 3 times under warranty now, and is leaking again. Anyone have any idea what might be the cause?
Pin alignment?
Surface Finish of ball? (I thought other LRs & Toyotas I've had had a more polished finish that this Defender.)
Other?
Also this time the grease leak is from the top of the housing (around the 4 bolts & small diameter tube entering it).
Be good to have this resolved.
thanks

So it's leaking from the top?.Swivels leak because they don't have enough pre-load on the bearings or the chrome is damaged. With yours,if it's leaking from the top it could have been completely filled if it's been worked on before. Pat

Do Pumas run oil filled swivels? I would have assumed they were greased like D1s.

Yes it's a grease leak, Bigjon...not oil.
Might be preload Pat303, but if so, I'd have thought the dealer would have got it right by the 3rd time! It's a pretty routine job really...they should have done thousands of them. It really doesn't look like a chrome finish on the swivel ball face. The LH side hasn't had problems, but has the same surface finish as the RHS, so it's probably not related to finish.

I'd say the three times it's been taken apart it's also had three shots of grease. If the pre-load is out or the pin is not tightened down the swivel will leak like crazy. Pat
