new landy?

hey all , i've just recently signed up at aulro and am in the market for a new landy. Would like to get your thoughts, opinions and what is good value for money. I'm willing to spend round $13,000-$20,000 and diesel is a must..

G'Day and welcome mate, I would say with a budget like that puts you in the range of a Disco 2 TD5, with reasonable kilometres, however I am sure others on the forum will have ideas also!!

What are your intentions for the vehicle????
D2 TD5 are great very comfortable great touring vehicles.
Defender,well we are new to ours.VERY agricultural compared to the D2,but it is a classic TOUGH Landy.
If its a family vehicle D2,if its going to be your play toy Defender.

Its not quite like buying bread and milk at the local.

Make a list of what you intend to do, budget, how mechanically minded you are as all cars when they get on need some TLC.

The Defender is a bit full on and has a cult like following.
My next car will probably be a defender.

The Disco is a lot more plush and depending on model can have many luxuries like leather, DVD player in back, sunroofs and a host of electrical things tolight up like a xmas tree.

I suggest take lots for a drive and see how they fit in with you, they are not quick but can be frugal on fuel.
The diesel is the pick and gets a premium for it.
The V8's drink 20L/100 average and watch for overheating and slipped liners.

Which ever you like and no matter what make, spend the money on a full health check of car by a qualified Landy meachanic.
A full service history is worth its weight in Gold.

Look on car sales and in market section on this site is a good start if looking for a new Landy.

hey all, im having trouble finding a disco with reasonable km's! A heap of the diesels have big km on the clock so im thinking its not the way to go....Also does anyone think a manual is important for off roading?

My personal opinion is that except for extreme off road competition auto is better, also more reliable.

The common consensus now is that an auto is the best way to go when offroading, what do you call high KLMs 200,000+ or lower, the MOST important thing is a GOOD SERVICE HISTORY on paper, you may even be able to purchase a pristine Series 1 disco with all the fruit,(97/98 300TDI with below 100,000klm) for a lot less that what you have budgeted for
still avery competent vehicle with less electronics
