hey all, i'm having trouble finding a disco with reasonable km's! A heap of the diesels have big km on the clock so i'm thinking its not the way to go....Also does anyone think a manual is more important for off roading?
Also is there another site other than car sales to find a Landy?

I bought mine off the markets section here and also sold via market section here. Its been very good to me.
Manual or Auto-- That old debate will go forever.
Auto is fine and great in sand and steep stuff like rocks so you do not have to slip clutch etc but tranny can get overloaded and cook.
Manual is more economical, better engine braking and some folks just prefer one over the other. You can also push start a manual.
I waited for the right one to come along for some time, when it popped up I just send the money over, the fine fella also a long term member here put it on a truck and I still have it now.
I like buying on th elow side and spending some $$$ on it, that way I know whats been done.
I spend roughly $7-8k on it after purchase Disco 97 tdi and has not let me down.

from what I've seen most of the D2's are auto's though I dont know a lot about them. I went from a string of RRC to D1 to D3.
My D1 was an auto and personally I liked it more than my manual RRC's. Not as much engine breaking going down hill but apart from that I think better in every way. Point and shoot on hills and very slow and steady over rough terrain.
The TD5 is a great engine and very economical. Performance mods with bigger turbo and intercooler are avaiable for apparanty very good results. The 4.0 ltr is more suited to highway driving due to is power and torque curve and a few people opt up to a 4.6. The v8 uses fuel but get one on gas and you wont notice the bills

the auto gearbox in d2 is designed to be used manually in offroad conditions so there is no need for a manual gearbox unless you have the masculine thing of needing to change gears. I dont think you will now get a low mileage disco, but mines done 200k and drives absolutely perfectly, my td5's only had a new starter motor(I could have had the solenoid repaired instead),fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator and alternator repair in 200ks, I do between 5 and 10ks of bush/offroad driving in it each year.
What do you call low Km's mine has 164000 and I think that is low for a '00 model
My 1999 TD5 D2 has done 250000ks,until now the biggest repair was a head gasket,was fixed before any engine damage so cheap as!!!!!.BlackBetty is in hospital at the moment.New flywheel/clutch and oil leaks plus a few maintence items,GOOD MONEY WELL SPENT!!!!
Parts prices on these machines are as cheap as you can get.
