    200tdi compression

    OK so I've searched

my 200tdi has dropped compression. no question there.

    but its getting these readings

    1-230
    2-225
    3-230
    4-100

which all seem to be too low one really low.
was tested with a snap-on compression tester so was good quality tester.
    cranked cold.
    turbo disconected
I know I have to take head off but has anyone else had similar results?

    Those readings are really low,

firstly, slow cranking or cold engines will be low, an engine sitting without being run for a time will be low, and tight valves will also make for low numbers.

What was the symptoms that lead to the compression test being performed?
Did it start readily without glowing?

yea starts fine with out glow. was running fine until Monday when all of a sudden it dropped power and started fuming out the rocker cover.
Im of the impression its blown into the push rod chamber wont kn ow till I wip the head off

motor was bought early last year under the belief it had 70000km on it but had been sitting in a estate for ten years doing nothing.

You are right on the money with a head leak into the crankcase, good call. I would say don't worry about the compression figures until the ehad gasket is replaced and it is driven 'hard' for a while. Sitting for 10 years isn't good for a diesel

Obviously, take a good look at the bores etc, but at 70,000km the 200Tdi should still have hone marks visible A great little engine.

so its all sorted now. had a whole in head gasket about 10mm number four to push rod whole.

total cost to fix $380 so not to bad in the end I had visions of a full rebuild!
