    1 or 2 relays cruise control.. help!!

    well got this new d1 v8 trying to sort cruise control out this is what i have done to try get it to work

    replaced vacume hoses
    test vacume pump/ works
    test brake pedal swithches/valves... working
    replaced steering wheel buttons
    test everything in holding pressure no leaks at all

    i can hear the ecu clicking when pushing -, nothing when i press +
    and yes im doing 45klms /hr plus

    but i am missing 1 blue relay under passengers side footwell

    could this be the problem, is there a relay for both switches etc etc.. if not what is the blue relay for.. etc etc

    all help much appreciated

    there are plenty of posts on this problem, try the search function, there is a post which gives a detailed way of checking out the complete system. if your ECU is broken, you can send it to Holland and they will either fix it , or send you another one, either way you get a 12month warranty. I do not think you can buy a new ECU now and if you can they are expensive. I think mine cost about $100 and it still working, one of my problems was the 2 tiny wires that go to the brake switch valve,(not the brake light switch) they were broken. The Haynes manual gives the best wiring diagam I have ever seen. Yes it is simple, thats what makes it easy to work out. Spend time looking at it, work your way from the battery and check everything that comes up. The bloke in holland will send you a spread sheet for you to fill in and send back to him. This tells him what is wrong, but you can work that out for yourself too. I was looking for a relay that was supposed to be down by the drivers footwell. When I found a quiet place, I pushed the cruise control button and I could hear the relay, it was behind the passengers side glove box!! pm me if you want.

    yeah i agree. but i have searched and read and read. all i want to know is what the blue relay is for? im thinking its for the + on the cruise control button(steering wheel),i see the spot for a blue relay but there isnt one attached, ive tried everything else so im guessing that is the prob.


    can any one check ther 94/95 discos to see if they infact have a blue relay instaled( passengers side foot well, parallel with the other fuses)

    If the wiring is there, buy a relay or replace with one from some other circuit, and see what happens.

    Can anyone help pin point where I find these relays? Last thing for me to try I think but no idea which relay is which there's that many in the car.

    Just a thought...

    When you test the brake switch (up by the pedal) make sure you do it in place.

    DON'T take the switch out and manually press/release it as you measure .... I did on mine, and it took days to find the problem. - Switch was not quite moving far enough when operated by the pedal.

    Found the RAVE manual's Fault-Finding flow chart to be easy and effective.

    cruise control pump

    Have you checked to see if your cruise control vacuum pump is working. This is a very common problem with the D1.

    My 95 D1 has relays all over the place. I think the one for the brake switch is on the passengers side of a RHD vehicle. I had to remove the glove box to get at it. The 2 tiny wires on the brake switch were broken off. I spent hours reading the Haynes wiring diagram (while waiting for the other half to finish shopping) to the point where at the time I could draw it freehand on a piece of paper. You really do have to spend the time to read the wiring diagram, otherwise you are wasting your time. I do not know how someone can hear the ECU clicking, as it is all solid state. There is a relay next to it, maybe they can hear that, on mine anyway. Since I had the ECU reconditioned in Holland, fixed the 2 broken wires on the brake switch, it has worked since 2009 and has cruised over 100,000km. Will need new steering wheel buttons soon, I keep spraying them with electrical contact cleaner and they work again.

    Yep, my '95 Classic has the ECU up behind the glovebox...

    There's no short-cut method, print out and use the RAVE flowchart, writing in your results and don't do anything differant to their proceedure.

    - Suggest you wear shirt/tie and grey dustcoat whilst doing it.
