On a full tank I only return 700k's. Can anyone better this? Am looking for a long range tank but cannot find a supplier. Can anyone help? I am going to fit a towbar when the tank is in, wether it's an add on or replacement main unit.

That's a good number out of 71 litres of usable tank capacity:
Puma std Fuel Tank - Undocumented 5L reserve = total 80lt
There are a few options for additional tanks.
I opted for the 45 Litre auxiliary tank available from Opposite Lock.

I generally get 8-9l/100kms in the City from my 2.4TDCi, and generally about 800kms.
I've run from Melbourne (South Wharf) to the Dog on the Tuckerbox without refuelling, which I think is about 600 as well. I generally get 10.5-11.9l/100kms on the motorway.
I haven't done anything about a auxiliary tank, but had been looking at the one from Opposite Lock as well.
Boy - 8 to 9L/100 is fantastic. I can't get mine any better than 10.5 or 11L/100 (2007 Puma) but I live in a hilly area.
They are supposed to get better after they have a few more KMs on them (20,000....?)
On a recent trip to Port Lincoln (relatively flat terrain) sitting on 85 to 90km/h I got 9.1L/100km.
Light came on around 680km and I filled up at 692km with 63litres.
On the way back I was around 100km/h and got 12L/100km
Just wondering about how far I could actually go after the light comes on?

With reference to the link I posted above I was able to extract 100km at an average over the trip for the tanks of 10.5l/100km from the light going on and the engine management causing the prescribed misfire in the engine.
As it was towards the end of the trip the consumption was probably closer to 11.5 given that it was made up of 110 kph and city driving.
I carried a 5 litre jerry of diesel just in case I stopped just short of a servo.
You have to be very sure of your consumption if you go beyond the yellow light.

I get around 650 to the tank and have also heard that they improve at around 15000 - 20000. As for the tow bar I have been told that the LR towbars can not be used with the long ranger tanks due to some positioning issues. The ARB bar is compatible but remember if you buy one from ARB the price quoted is for bar only. The wiring harness has to be sourced from LR and you will also loose your rear step as the ARB bar goes over the fittment holes.

Best for me is just under 9L/100km, worst is 18.5L/100km. Normally get around 11.5-13L/100km. Hot weather doesn't help and there's a lot of it up here. Best fuel consumption was in Tassie last winter.
