    19" Continental Cross Contact AT

Hi all, Just had word from my tyre supplier that the Conti AT will be available in 19" in Australia mid October. About time. More tyre makers need to get onto it.
    Cheers, Craig

Good news for those on 19's,

I just had my AT 18's out for their first bit of dirt work over the weekend, around Mt Walker near Lithgow and they performed well.

Did not get to try them in any mud or really soft stuff but for the work we did, some steep rocky climbs and general playing about etc they were great.

Certainly a lot less scrabbling about than my prior trip out there on very road biased tyres.

My only concern so far with the Conti's is the side walls, which appear pretty soft. I picked up got a cut in one, not deep enough to be a concern and to be fair some of the tracks had a bit of sharp rock on them. I note that one of the other participant who hat MT tryes also picked up a cut in a sidewall so may have just been one of those things.

Either way they are a good option in my opinion. Happy with them so far on road and capable off, with a wide open tread that should shed mud when the opportunity arises.

Hey George, how are they for road noise compared to the original tyres.

    Craig,

I posted the following thread http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/...-boots-d3.html a month or two ago shortly after I put them on which has a bit more details, however basically with the windows up there is slight but not intrusive increase in road noise.

As the ultimate test, my wife who tends to drive the D3 more than I do during the week has not raised noise or anything else for that matter as a concern post the change.

Either way I am happy with them.

I think I also made some comments on pricing in the above thread which may or may not help you as mine were 18's rather than 19's.

    Hope this helps,

    George

Maybe there is more than 1 importer, but the response today from a local tyre outlet who contacted the local Conti distributor who contacted the importer was that no Cross Contact AT in 255/55-19 are on their import schedule, which covers the next 6 months. So is there more than 1 importer? I will need tyres before long and don't want the Pirelli ATRs again due to their half-depth outer voids and their tendency to aquaplane on the freeway even when new.

Not sure about importer, however I have been trying to track down an additional 18' as a spare and having no luck but certainly not been advised about anything like there being a 6 month wait. If that was the case that would be really annoying.

Had trouble sourcing conti's in SE qld back in September but ended up sourcing from the LR dealer in Toowoomba without any problems. Possibly paid a little extra but they were still competitive compared to tyre outlets.
    cheers,
