    Fire Starters and Survival Gear

Hi guys, not sure if this is something that people are interested in but the same supplier that stocks the LED Lenser torches in the other thread i posted also stocks Ultimate Survival Technologies products.

As a part of their range they have some very cool flint type fire starters.

The first of which is the BlastMatch Fire Starter, pictured below:

Can be used in the pooring rain and is very effective, check out the youtube review i've posted below:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYRKzdSXH34]YouTube - Blast Match Fire Starter[/ame]

These cost $39.95 (freight is $6, but can be thrown in with a torch or something else as they come from the same supplier).

The little brother of the BlastMatch is the Sparkie Fire Starter, pictured below:

Works in much the same way as the BlastMatch, see the youtube review below:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zepovw5ClyA]YouTube - Ultimate Survival Technologies Sparkie Fire Starter[/ame]

This one costs $29.95 (same deal for postage as the other one).

As an addition to these starters you can also get Ultimate Suvival Technologies Wetfire tinder. Its sort of like jiffy firelighters but it works in water and actually burns better the wetter it gets. You can see how that works in the BlastMatch Youtube review i posted first, they demonstrate its use.

Comes in a blister pack as shown in the first pic with 8 cubes. However these arent like jiffy's and you dont need a heap of cubes to get a decent fire going. You can use a whole cube if you want to but with some tinder you only need to shave a few flakes off the cube into a pile as shown in the second photo next to the mug. Ideal tinder is lint from your washing machine or drier or some cotton wool balls.

The wetfire costs $13 for a pack of 8 cubes.

Not made by ultimate survival technologies but very handy and something i reckon should be in every car is a window breaker/seatbealt cutter. Comes in blue or yellow and goes on your car keys so you always know where it is. Particularly handy for 4wders given that vehicle roll overs and being stuck in deep water is a very real possibility. Sure a knive etc will do the job but with this its always an arms reach away from the driver if you need to smash a window to get out or cut the seatbelt.

Thought they might be of interest to some.

thats a good idea, but this could speed things up a bit and lighting the fire under the jeep provides a dry area to get the fire started

Hmmm, a BlastMatch and some WetFire might be good in the old BOB.

Try a empty bic lighter and some steel wool, or just use jumper leads and steel wool bit of wind or blow and the steel wool burns red hot. Works well.

Somewhere in the back of my truck is usually my emergency stuff box that has a couple of cans of butane together with a blow torch that has a piezoelectric starter. This unit has been known to start a number of fires when the kindling is damp.

Also good for heatshrink and the occasional emergency solder. :-)

All great ideas guys....but im trying to sell stuff here

Darkside, mate if you are interested let me know. If you want a Blastmatch and some of the wetfire tinder I can do a cheaper price for the pair.

If anyone else wants both together

The price would be $50 for the 2.

I have a blastmatch (from a while ago.. but I'll get my next one from you Ace and I can say its the best flint I've ever used by far. They work much better than the usual ones as you can use them with one hand (other hand free is very useful!)
