Waeco battery pack

Was Thinking of a dual battery for the defer so can run fridge etc. But Waeco have a special at the moment where package comes with waeco battery pack.
Anyhow now thinking would it be possible to set it up on a dual battery type thing, redarc isolator etc maybe with an Anderson plug so can still remove it from vehicle. In my head it would work and seems it would be cheaper than full blown dual battery set up.
Anyone done it. And what would make this pointless is charging protection in the waeco, cutting charge once the supply battery drobs below a certain voltage does anyone know if it has this. Can't seem to find any relevant info.

the basic premis is sound however you may need to include a current limiter as the battery pack is likely to have SLA batteries in them and they have a different charging requirement/technique compared to normal car batteries.

Traxide (drivesafe on here) has a unit called the SC-80 which can do exactly what you describe and is competetively priced - check his website. I have one myuslef and am going to use it in the same application.

I use the battery pack in my d3 as I picked up the CF60 for a song a few months ago.

I plug the battery into my ciggy plug in the car so that it is being charged while I drive around. Then plug the fridge into the battery pack. This worked awesome on a recent 4 day trip ( withless than 1 hour of driving a day and the battery pack never got under 12v)

With the next car I will get dual batts but the waeco pack will be handy for picnics or BBQ on the beach if i don't want to walk back to the truck to fetch beer.

thanks guys, as always, good advice. i think i will still go for the waeco deal, it looks pretty addractive. i am about to call and ask them if the battery pack has an "intelligent" charging circuit.

Can you apply this Waeco pack to a Trailblazer fridge ?

Id like to leave my fridge at camp without running a gen I Thought of setting up a marine battery box similarly and have it be able to charge from the car as required. A Car battery would give you around 1.5-2 days of running your fridge.

Can you buy the Waeco Battery unit seperately ? and what is the cost ?

Maybe the Traxide unit is better ?

I have been trough this and finished with a marine battery setup inside a portable box.
Works very well and is 80 am/h which is bigger than the Waeco and back then half of the price.
With this setup I can leave the CF50 and the battery at the camp.

Turns out the waeco battery pack needs charging from a mains charger to fully recharge. It can be plugged into a power supply from the vehicle but this will never fully top it up. Guy on the phone in tech support suggested I get one of the waeco chargers or similar as well to maintain the battery and it's capacity. Seems now I think I will look at a factory seconds fridge and cover and make a battery pack up with the traxide charge device. Will keep you updated.

I remember seeing these when we were setting up our fridge/car options, but as mentioned before, the price is high given that it really is just a battery in a box.

We used the traxide unit (which I can't recommend highly enough - both in terms of the device and support from drivesafe here) and it can be rigged to charge two batteries. So we have it set up so it charges a second battery in the 'fender to power the Waeco and in-car goodies, as well as a third battery in the back which we can remove to power the fridge (as well as lights, etc) out of the car. Best of both worlds...
