Question Grey smoke on start up

    Hey guys!

I have noticed when I start the Disco up cold or at running temps, there is a cloud of grayish colour smoke that bellows out and sort of carries on very briefly then disappears.
The disco has a bigger turbo bolted up and the injector pump tweaked, so I don't know if that smoke I mentioned might be just a bit of excess fuel???

I have searched quite alot for this around the forum so apologies if this is a double up ...

The disco is my first 4B and consequently, my first diesel, so everything is a learning curve for me.

    Thanks guys!

    300 Tdi?

If so it is normal 4wd anti-social behaviour ... I used to wait until pedestrians were well clear before starting for fear of abuse.

Yeah it's the 300, just wasn't sure if there may be a cause for concern .... I guess I'm going to be a bit twitchy about the disco for while until I'm familiar with it, almost like an over protective dad if you will LoL

As Mahn said, perfectly normal, my disco does the same thing, this is the second motor and the previous one did it aswell.

I have the same issue with my 300tdi. Even so it often seems to blow less smoke on startup if/when I let the glow-plugs warm up for a bit longer before turning the ignition key.

I had go to thinking that it ws due to excess fuel or something, then started over thinking it by way of a leaking injector(s)!! LoL

Im a little more at ease now, thanks guys.

I have found that when starting, if the throttle is depressed about 1/3 then released immediately the engine fires the puff of smoke is almost non existant. ('97 330tdi)

The injector pump on the 300Tdi is setup to provide excess fuel at cranking speeds to help starting. Hence the smoke.
