its the inertia switch.
I thought the LR dealer had finally fixed up my central locking & disabled the engine immobilizer (after it permanently immobilized itself up the bush). Anyway it all seemed fine until the day after I got it back, I drove over some railway tracks and...
...the hazzard lights came on!
It happened only once before when I bottomed out the front suspension heavily on a washout. I suspect it might be some sort of safety feature that comes on when the vehicle is involved in a crash. You have to turn the ignition off, pause & turn it on again to cancel.
Anyway now it happens all the time on washboard corrugations, etc. Just got back from Flinders Ranges, Strzleki, Camerons Corner & SA/NSW dingo fence & it must have happened 70-80 times...and only once before the dealer fixed things.
Anyway...does anyone have any ideas how to turn this "feature" off? I did notice that the remote key is a bit more sensitive than it was before, so there may be some relationship here.
Cheers
Brid

That makes sense. Do you know where it's located? And is it easy to remove...or is it all software related?
The inertia switch is on the bulkhead, looks like a big black round rubber button. You will probablly find it is faulty and needs replacing as it sounds like it is not totally activating as normally if activated you have to reset it, so there may be a problem. It is there to cut the fuel in the event of a big hit or accident.
I know I did one with a D2 I bought as a wrecked roll over, owner reckons it was buggered and could not start it. Reset the button and away she went.

consult your users manual...
in the deefers its typically on the firewall inboard of the clutch tower. For the life of me I cant remember where it is in a disco.
you can disconnect it but dont. also be warey that if you have a turbo timer some setups will not turn the engine off just initiate the hazards, others will kick it over onto the turbo timer as well as the hazards so the hazards will come on and then the engine will shutdown at whatever the turbo timer time is set to and others function as advertised and if the switch is tripped kill the engine and activate the hazards.

It doesn't seem to cut the fuel at all...even the first time it came on after a heavy bottom out. All it does is activate the hazzards... and you can keep driving as long as you like, before reseting it. Do you think it's the same device?
