Can anyone shed some light on my 09(MY10) defenders vin no. It is SALLDHMS7AA784649.The 7 after the S indicates that it is an 07 model but the plastic bits around the vehicle and the motor have 09 stamp on them and what does the AA mean.I have looked up the vin no.explanation in the workshop manual but it does'nt seem to explain my numbers.

Mine is an 09MY so the VIN is SALLDHMS79AXXXXXX

Where the S is the engine type, 7 is the gearbox type, 9 is the Model year and the A means assembled in Solihull

In your case I would suspect that the A after the 7 is now the designation for Model Year 2010 rather than using "10"

Correct, the 10th character is the model year.

9 = 2009
A = 2010
B = 2011
