    Restraint fittings engineered?

    Hi,

The wife rang our local TJM outlet recently to find out how much a child restraint anchor point would cost for the 110. They got back to her today to say it would have to be engineered because of the aluminium body. Cost would be over $1000

Are they full of **** or should I look into some alternatives?

Search around on this site, I am certain that there are cheaper solutions already established. You just need to pay for the anchor bar and fixing. I say anchor bar because I think that they mount a bar instead of a single point.

Here you will find the answer

There is something on the site. just can't recall the name.

If you have no luck then maybe try Simon, at Bruce Lynton LR Gold Coast Qld. I have a 130 (i know not a 110) which had child restraints fitted. Simon knows of the local company that did mine and there was no dramas at all. Around $350 mark.

RTA website will point you to a local approved restraint fitting station who should know how and what to do to install a creb/crab bar.

If not, call Mobility Engineering in Hornsby. They are the RTA restraint engineering signatory, or used to be. They have a database with pics of installations on unusual/difficult vehicles.

You should only need it to be engineered if the standard solutions won't work.

Someone was selling a restraint bar for a 110 in the last week, either in Markets, or on ebay, padded and everything, looked very schmick.

    Well that'd explain that.

Pity the search engine doesn't get it.

Had two anchor points for the 130 for around the $500 from a disabled mobility mob in Cardiff. I believe Altapac at Kotara will do them for 110's for less than that.

I had my crab bar fitted to my 02 def, wagon about 6 months ago, its a horizontal bar with 3 child bolt points that runs along behind the rear seats, it cost me about $390 from memory and it bolts into the holes(below load area window behind the plastic trim) that are used as load ties when the def is a ute that are rated for carrying a 1-1.5ton load so the aluminium body line is a crock. I also had another place quote me over $1k so had a good search on here and there is a thread with all the child seat Q's pretty much answered in 1 place. I did not consider going the floor mounted arm as I have 4 kids and have just fitted the load seats(thanks nayto and lvs spares!) and it sticks up like a spear from the floor ruining it for both load and passengers!
Mine is almost identical to the macfamilies bar: Defender Child Anchor Point Bar(with pics)

I have also seen the bar raised by putting/bolting an A frame on each side that connects to 2 boltholes at the bottom and the bar at the top to lift it up around 4-6in to suit the reg's for different seats.

    Thanks

Thanks for all the helpful info everyone. We will be looking into these suggestions. The guy that quoted me the $1000 had apparently just finished getting his ticket in all this child restraint business for vehicles. Do you know, he suggested I find an 'alternative vehicle' to my defender for driving my baby around! One who owns a Defender does not seek an 'alternative vehicle' my friend.
