    NEV"S HOME MADE CAR

    The Engine

Some time ago I started receiving emails about a bloke that is building a replica 1910 fait racing car with a 16 ltr engine 4 Cyl. engine. Not knowing who he was or where he was from I deleted the emails, but every month or so my friend sent me updates and still does.
The content of these emails begun to get interesting so I asked for more details of the manufacture and his where abouts, he lives about a 4 hour drive west of Brisbane so I then contacted the bloke and asked for permission to go and have a look at his project and the permission to post his photos on this sight.
After about ten minutes of chatting I asked what trade he was thinking he would be perhaps a fitter and turner or some similar trade, and after along pregnant pause came the reply of I just a farmer, .have been all my life, next question was how old are you ? Reply I am 78.
This bloke has a fully working rolls Royce V12 Merlin motor he will start for us when we visit 2 radial motors one is a diesel from the second WW and one he has made from what looks like Jap. Motor bikes engines (see att Photo) plus he makes small hand held 4 Cyl motors that work.
After I visit him shortly I will have lots more to show and tell so if any one interested just say the word and I will keep adding to this post.
The photos is pretty well self explannery .
    Oh and every thing works

Hodgo has apparently been up to see my mate Neville. I sent the photos to Hodgo originally. The engine is being fabricated for a replica of a Fiat land speed record car of 1910. Two were built. There is a rumour of a third but no proof. They used a 28 litre Fiat airship engine. I have seen a photo of one of them with the bonnet open. That high bonnet is chock full of engine, end to end, and top to bottom.

The first one had only a handbrake used for bringing to a halt and parking. The car was for a record attempt on a long straight road and braking was by engine compression like a speedway motor cycle. The brakes of the time were ineffective at the 130+mph speeds expected.

Nev's engine uses the crankshaft, rods, and pistons from an early D8 tractor. four cylinders, 16 litres. The oil pumps are from G-well bag loaders used on farm trucks in the grain belt in the bag days.
