From memory 9/16 UNF or BSF. Pat
Hello
Just on the off chance does anyone know the size of the bolt I need for the front spring hangers of the series 2a????
we went to put front springs on last night only to find no bolts, it was at that point Ian remembered cutting them off because they were seized.
I would look it up in the parts manual I brought from Dave however Ian has it at work...quite why you need a series parts manual at work when you fix jumbo's is beyond me
Also are they readily available as I would really like to get some as soon as poss so we can start putting bits back on the car

I just found some on ebay... for spring and shackle bolts the bloke wants $80 + postage
does that sound expensive? I dont actually need a full set as the rear ones were OK

Depends how desperately you want them. This crowd have them for about $1 each plus postage.

I would expect to pay about $10 each for a high-tensile bolt of the right size from a machinery dealer in Oz,

Up to suffix A they're 1/2" BSF, after that they're 9/16 UNF. However, all the shackle pins are different. My handwritten notes in the parts manual for the 1/2" BSF say:
270741 Front end front spring, 2 off, short bolt, long thread.
233625 Rear end, front spring, 4 off, long bolt.
236969 Rear end, rear spring, 4 off, short bolt, short thread.
270741 Rear end, front spring, 2 off, short bolt, long thread.
A long bolt is 5 3/8", a short bolt is 4 3/8"
They were buggers to get hold of, Brian at LVS turned up most of them from his cabinets upstairs after much searching, but from memory I had to import some from LR Series in the UK. I think the locknuts came from Classic Fasteners Classic Fasteners - Fasteners for your vehicle restoration project..
I just checked Clasic Fasteners, and they only go up to 4"
LR Series are not even finding parts 270741 and 233625.
I've got a set of rear shackles with 4 bolts in the "cleaned up and ready to go" box, so I presume (if I've been logical) the bolts are short bolt, short thread. I've also got 8 nyloc nuts for them.
I don't think anything I've got will help you out, but it's there if you need it.
As per previous advice, try Gary at CLR and Brian at LVS, then maybe All4x4 at Kotara.
The 4" bolts at Classic Fasteners are $10 each. The full set on ebay gives you 12 bolts, so $80 sounds very reasonable. Make sure you get the right size, 1/2" BSF or 9/16" UNF.

As others have said - just buy them.
At least you got the vehicle at the right price.

Just for the record though I offered to buy it I have two people as witnesses but the guy would not except..he said I was doing him a favour
I'm still in contact with him he is following my rebuild, he is glad that a vehicle that was in the family for 40 years is getting some TLC
