    D3 coiler suspension update

G'day, Hope you all had a great Xmas.

I finally got my van hitched up but had a big drop of the rear
end and had to use a lot of links on my HR levelers to get things
back under control. Towed like a dream after that but I'm
of the opinion things could be much better.

Any suggestions re upgrading? I'm currently just south of Perth
but will be heading east in the next few weeks.

    Regards
    Ali

    Hi Alibarber,
It sounds like your towball weight is too great. Do you know what it is?

Also remind me, are you running standard coils, or uprated?

    Best Wishes,
    Peter

    G'day Peter

Mate I'm pretty sure they're the standard, not too sure.

The sag was nowhere near as much with my BT-50 so
therefore my concern. Have not come across a weigh station
when hooked up so not sure of ball weight either.
I've kept the front end as lightly loaded as possible.

I found the standard coils to be pretty soft, nice ride on the road but I wouldn't want to load the D3 up too much.
Upgraded springs and shocks (I have a set from Dobinsons) do reduce the ride quality but would be more suited to towing a van.

    Hi Ali,
I still believe that the towball weight is too high for your D3 in its current configuration.

I must admit that I have King Springs on mine. They give a 50mm lift, for offroad, and a 30% increase in spring load.

In other situations, people use Polyair springs to account for different loads, but I don't think that they are suitable for the D3 suspension.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what a BT50 is. Is it a ute, perhaps with heavier springs in the rear?

    Best Wishes,
    Peter

The load onto one of those was nearly 1 ton and a third . That's
a ton more than your D3 factory standard coiler

    Thanks guys,

Neil, that explains the reason for the different sag levels so will
    stop comparing apples with watermelons.
I'm spending the day redistributing the load before heading off
again tomorrow and see what transpires. I'll also be looking
for a weigh bridge to sort this out.

Hope you have a festive New Year

    Ali
