TD5 or a TDV6 in a defender, which one would you choose?

Just putting it out there.......................... If you had the money........

As your normal run-a-round everyday car..... something you would take touring, to the outback.

    Would you choose a TDV6 (2.7) engined defender, or a Td5 defender?

Both decked out in your wishlist of bolt-on goodies, the only difference is the engines.......

is the 2.7TDV6 availabe as a manual? if so what manual?

im heading towards the TDV6 even an auto would be good if it can be mated to an lt230...

Im thinking it will be shorter so can sit back against the bulkhead better and cheap the weight more towards the middle. No idea but would it be shorter than the TD5 due to beeing a V formation...which would keep the center of G lower....but then the TD5 may weigh less which would change the equation also...

Id like the new TDV6 3.0 if you can please

there was a 6 manual mated to it. hard to come by, in australia......

Amyone know of prices for an engine and gearbox?

It can be mated to a LT230, theres a few shops in the UK that have done it.

As Jonesy has said in the Magazine LRO (Land Rover Owners) a couple of months ago Pete has fitted the TDV6 into a 90 Ute with the factory 6 speed manual to it (the manual was available in aus up until 2008 in the base model only)
Was a good read & i would definatley go this choice. Think the problem with the Auto is the box is so big & would require a lot of fabrication/modification to fit. But would be lovely if money was no option..

Are you thinking of getting one? It seems pretty good to my mind.
Mind you, why stop at the TDV6 when you can have one of these

I was thinking as an option if this td5 carks it in the near future, if no manual here in aus I will hunt one from overseas.
Anyone know of prices for a TDV6 engine?

570NM from the tdv6 into the ford 6 speed and its going to last about as long as a series box behinda 4bd1.

Id go the td5 pushing the r380 because its done and proven and everything you need to do it exists is still availalbe and is fairly common. so when it goes wrong you have a good shot at a repair.

There are other engine options that work AND pass Australian emission control regs for up to a 2006/7 td5 deefer.
