Help Please - New noise from Puma engine

    Hi All,

Driving home yesterday we noticed a new noise while excelerating, it sounds like air being sucked in but is maybe a bit higher in pitch, it happens under load, thought it may be the turbo but the car is running well, it was in the shop last week for a few things and a service so wondering if the have worked something loose.

Thing is I am not sure if I should be driving it to Landrover or if I should call them in, has anyone come across this noise? I cant replicate it standing still as it only happens when driving, accelerating in neutral does not bring it on.

    Any Ideas?
    it is a my10 defender

    thanks
    Patrick

    Hi All

Patclan it sounds to me like there is maybe a hose loosing pressure under full boost might need to check all the hoses on the intake side of the engine.

    Mark,

Thanks for that, I had a look but could not see anything, I took it down to Bruce Lynton on the gold coast and they had a quick look, there is a split in one of the hose from the turbo, underneath somewhere so hard to find he said, he also said it looked like it had been rubbing, not sure what against but he did not go into more detail, part arrives tomorrow so will drop it back down to get it fixed, in the meantime I sound like a lexus boy racer with my turbo valve thingy going voosh all the time..

My guess is: Intercooler hose rubbing on the steering joint.

Very common issue on the Puma!

During a bush mechanic course the LR mechanic showed us where it rubs - IIRC there is a bolt of some sort just under the elbow of the turbo hose.

    Shot mate!

I must actually get around to doing some preventative maintenance for this - any ideas?
