2A Steering options

My recently acquired 2A 109 GS came minus steering wheel, column and box. Will the same parts off a series 3 109" or 88" Series 2 bolt straight into my 2A? Do 88s and 109s have the same steering assemblies? So many issues to take care of!

1. 88 and 109 are the same steering assembly.

2. Steering wheel and hence column (different spline/connection) changed about 1967, but complete assemblies are interchangeable. (earlier wheel & column & box are the same as Series 1 from 1955, but you are unlikely to find one)

3. Series 3 steering wheel is the same as the later wheel, and the box/column are pretty much interchangeable except for trim issues. Late S3 wheel, fully interchangeable, is a much better grade of plastic.

this is the only bolt-on, "off the sfelf" kit that I am aware of:
TDZ Power steering for Series Land Rovers

However there are much better options IMHO. Have a search on here.

Shame you're not closer to Perth as I'd be quite tempted to swap my power steering set-up with your standard set-up. Just swap the drag link, bolt in the hydraulic pump and reservoir. The only weld-on bit on mine is the mount block for the chassis end of the hydraulic ram but I think this can be accomplished with a bolt on mount block that wouldn't be too hard to get made.

Of course I'd want a steering wheel and your wheels too as there's little hope of me turning the wide wheels without the power steering. I could try and find out more but I understand the system on my Landy was installed locally and made up from bits rather than a complete kit. It looks pretty simple and I don't think there's anything particularly difficult in it.

I'd like to see some photo's too, I just checked my parts donor series 3 and it has a power steering rig on it too. Hopefully I can transfer it across to the 2A GS although its currently hooked and up to the Holden 202 and looks like it needs a full overhaul. Transferring it to the LR 2.25 could be tricky.
