shouldn't there be a light somewhere on the dash/steering column so you see it it disarms? THis happened to me, my immobiliser was bumped and had a loose connection. Everything you described was exactly the same.

This light is also used to override the immobiliser manually

Ok, i went out and closed the landy up and immobilised it all worked as normal but the red light on the dash is blinking alot faster than normal, where from here

I presume we are talking 130 Defender TD5 here? In which case I would be surprised if an immobiliser problem stopped it from cranking. It would be more likely to start and then stop.

It sounds more like a starter motor problem to me. Have a look at the cables connecting to the starter solenoid, and I would also be carefully checking engine/transmission earths.

    Cheers,

    Lionel
