I'm buying a D3 and because it has traveled a few miles decided that a suspension upgrade is required. Heasmans have quoted me $2300 for Bilstein struts installed and revalved to suit my requirements (ARB bar, winch, 2nd battery and Kaymar with 2 spares).
Being of Scottish decent I wondered if I could import the shocks and install myself. I did some searching and found a how to on the Koni site for anyone who is interested. It looks fairly straight forward and only requires the new seal kits which apparently cost about $30 each.

I have decided to go with Heasmans as the revalve will be important for my situation.

I replaced my D4's shocks with MY09 D3 ones and the seal kits were included. The front air lines and inner nuts were fiddly but the task was straight-forward.

How did that go Graeme? Did it improve the suspension action as hoped?

I was reading through your posts but could not find anything about the result.
I was going to suggest you try the Bilsteins or Konis as both can be re-valved.

Along with swapping the sway bars, the ride is now much more to my liking. The shocks can still feel a little too stiff with an empty vehicle and when the fuel tank gets low, but is a good compromise for us. I feel that the ride is soooo much more relaxing which is especially good when doing long drives, eg 10 hrs last Sunday. I think the MY09 shocks must have more rebound control than the MY08 that we test-drove, as its still inclined to snatch down an empty vehicle after a bump but should provide reasonable control when heavily loaded. The vehicle no longer sits so flat around higher speed or tight corners but I find it more relaxing to have the steering not so (excessively?) responsive and more consistant.
