    ARB Hitch Receiver

Just finished installing an ARB rear step bar to the RRC. When I went to put a Hayman Reese hitch in it, it doesn't fit...? Slightly too small - only just. Also tried the Boronia hitch off the Dunny door, and same thing. Are the ARB hitch recievers smaller than some others, or am I missing something here?

    Cheers - Gav.

You might need to round the corners off. In any case, you need the correct hitch insert because of the angle they slide in and the depth of the retaining pin hole.

The pin depth I could have worked with, but I didn't think about the angle... Looks like it will be easier to get a new one. Thanks for the help.

Looks like the old hitches can go with the old towbar. The 4000Kg Haymen Reese towabar and hitch are up for grabs if anyone wants them...

    Cheers -Gav.

Free or for sale? If for sale, it must go in the Markets and not in the forums.

i remember when I fitted a rear arb bar (bought new from arb) about 15 years ago i had to take all the paint off the hitch before it would slide into the slot. After that if I didn't take it out regularily it would get very stuck. usually the sledge hammer provided enough persuasion to get it out but not always.

Yeah, I cleaned up the paint on the hitch, and I could just get it started, but I didn't want to take a hammer to it, as I don't think it would have come out...

When I got my D2 there was no hitch. Called the local HaymanReece supplier and was told there was 2 sizes , depending on the vehicle. Ok it's a Discovery 2, oh you'll have to come in and try them out. Spoke to HR and they said that it was the larger one (the two sizes are 40x40 & 50x50) and it would be obvious if I got a smaller one. So the difference in sizes is quite marked and shouldn't cause it to jam.

I ended up with one from a falcon alloy tray ute with a long insert from the wreckers. Called ford to ID & confirm the rating on the tow bar. Turned out to be one of their HD tow packs. HR said that it would be fine to use to the rating of the existing bar on the Disco. The advantage is that it's around 100 or so mm longer, and while it doesn't sound like much, with the box trailer being slightly narrower you can see the mudguards out the side mirrors while driving.

that's a bit different to the arb rear bars. ARB make or made the receiver about 2 or 3 mm on the small side. The hitch I had is the one supplied with the bar by ARB but it didn't fit hence the need to remove all the paint.
