So I finally picked up the tray back

It has been wrestled into the space next to the shed (87 trayback 3.9D) now I brought this thing blind and only really had a look at it now. We seem to be short a stock fuel tank an international truck fuel tank has been plumbed in its place although i kinda knew that might be the case. In a former life it kept a grader going. So now its shovelling the red dust out of the thing just have a bit of a tidy up. The dead gearbox again I knew about and looking at the body work which a little cosmetically sad the places that normally rust seem to be ok.

The other thing is that one of the front half shafts has been pulled at some stage, looking at the half shaft there are no signs of shearing or spline damage so is it likely to be just the CV joint? Why else would you pull a half shaft out? both front swivel seals are toast anyway, so will be going in deeper just speculating if there is a drama in the front diff?

Congrats on the 120, they're a fairly rare beast! Well worth the effort restoring IMHO.

You have any pics? (or have you not been initiated into the forum rules yet?

Only a couple got to pull them off the camera first. Rang the guy I brought it off and got a bit more of the story, they guy he brought it off had taken it to a mechanic with driveline issues. Said mechanic pulled the front end apart disconnected front drive shaft and said this was the issue vehicle continued with symptoms which turned out to be the gearbox all along. Unfortunately the CV has been sitting out in the weather for a few years so I think its beyond recovery, first job is to shovel the red dust out of it and work out why the passenger door doesn't want to open.

    Hi Nero

Welcome to the joys of having an 87 120 ute mine is april build.

I don't know about the others but a puma tank is a bit different - doesn't have a drain bung in the wagon model. Message me if you think I can help
