i use M R Automotive on the north side....landy specialist, know there stuff but can take up to two weeks to get your car in
sounds like your hydraulic system might have just had a hiccup from not being driven
Hi there
I've just imported my Land Rover Defender into Australia from the UK, have got it rego'd and took it out for a spin around the city. Then disaster struck.....
The gears wouldn't select properly and instead of engaging they grind against each other....1st...2nd...all the way through to 5th!!
It happens in Low Range, High Range and has no drive at all. I had it towed to the local garage in Bulimba and they checked it out the next day but couldn't find anything wrong with it?!!
The gearbox had returned to normal and they couldn't find an issue - but obviously there is one somewhere.
I'm new to the city and am looking for advice on the best mechanic/garage I can take it to for a once-over. Can anyone help me with the best place to contact??
The gearbox is an R380 and has worked perfectly for the last five years and is regularly serviced as a matter of course.
Your help and Aussie mateship is very much appreciated
Thank you
Ben Southall

if you can make it out to ipswich and we can arrange a suitable time I can have a look.
It sounds like its a fault in the tcase rather than the r380.

If you need a hand to get it over to Ipswitch to Daves place, give me a call on 0415366536. I am living in Scarborough but I wouldn't mind popping over to Daves place as I have a couple of questions about 300Tdi power improvements for him.
Provided that's OK by you Dave?

Thank you for your responses guys and girls
I've managed to get the gearbox selecting again and believe that it may have been the clutch release mechanism getting stuck.
The vehicle had sat for a year in the UK and then in a container for 6 weeks so things weren't operating 100% correctly.
As a matter of course I am now sending it to MR Automotive for a once over as a friend lives up near them and I can us it as an excuse to visit...as long as the Landie makes it!
I now have RACQ cover too
Appreciate all of your help
Ben
