Not a very surprising outcome.
European, backpacking driver without a seat belt (I assume, as he ended up under the van), driving a Mitsubishi grey import 4wd van, at night, on the beach. Was this an accident going to happen?
Driver dead as 4WD rolls on beach
Not a very surprising outcome.

Thank heavens it wasnt Fraser Island. That place needs a break from tragic holidays for awhile longer yet.
The Mitsubishi "StarWagon" was the upmarket people carrier version of the 2wd and 4wd 80's L300 van also know as "Easy Rolls" they took the title from 60's VW Kombis![]()
Think it is all in how you drive them. I took an then almost new eighties l300 to the cape and back. Only mod was a lift kit so it would take 16 inch wheels.
Except for starting to float on the Jardine crossing it went everywhere the big Landcruisers everyone else in the group had went. Did not need any running repairs like the Landcruisers either.

That particular beach is famous - infamous - for forgetful people. They forget their clothes.
Perhaps seatbelts are uncomfortable in the nuddy.
On a more serious note a death is a death, with everything that flows from the tragedy. It may be restrictions are imposed on Samurai. Perhaps Stockton as well.

In the hands of an inexperienced operator those things look deadly. I reckon they would make an awsome camper/tourer but the center of gravity would have me terrified.
