replacing std fuel filter with normal inline type??? (Carby RRC)

    Ok
so my stocky fuel filter has seen its last days...went to change the element filter in my 81 RR today only to find it wont screw back in as it should.

Debating chopping the threaded ends off and sticking a normal inline type filter in there.

the pro's I've gathered so far are as followed...
    -easier to change
    -more readily available
    -cheaper
-I don't have to pay for a new OEM replacement or run around finding another s/h unit

My question to you wonderful people is....
    Are there any con's?
why shouldn't I do it......I see no obvious reason.
    Thanks in advance
    Peace

Get either a CAV type unit or a generic spin on EFI filter base. Just find a common one.... as much as I hate to say it.... a Toymota one.... and you'll never be short of somewhere to get a replacement.
Its on my list of things to do to the Rangie based on the stupid location of the injection filter.... :/

So,to clarify.......an Efi filter is the same/does the same thing as a petrol one?

I know the flow rates are all different when it comes to pumps....so i just assumed,EFI pump = Efi filter?

I'm gunna take the old filter base into the parts shop today...see if i can find a direct replacement to screw in before i chop it....but otherwise,I'm really not keen on waiting another 2-5 working days for parts to arrive etc!
    It's been too long already!

So I ended up getting a pretty chrome aftermarket unit.....figured if I was going to mod it from original i may as well mod it to take a "pretty" washable filter!

    True?!?

I didn't get enough cons to deter me
