developed an annoying sound from this park brake switch

    Hi Guys,

Any electronic experts out there who can help solve this suddenly annoying sound? It has just started, for no reason that I can see. It happens when I move the gear stick into P, and every time I touch the foot brake when in P, I get a quick tap/click sound. Loud enough to have noticed it over the radio and now I know it's there I find it very irritating. So I took the cup holder and casing out as that was in the general direction of the click sound, and found the white plastic switch thing which moves when I press foot brake and/or engage P. It is the cause of the annoying sound. I'm wondering if it has lost a bump stop or cover sheild to stop the sound of plastic hitting plastic?

    Any ideas?

You could try turning your radio up a bit louder

    Hi Ozzy119,
It's pretty normal, some are louder than others. Its just the solenoid being released when the brake pedal is touched.
    Cheers.

    Hi CaverD3,

I'm glad someone else knows what I'm on about as thought maybe I'm just imagining it, but I was certain it wasn't there before. So, to follow your advice what & where do I find the solenoid shaft? I can only see the white switch and can't really see much behind it. I didn't fancy having to take any of the gear shift console apart.

    thanks,

You have to take the centre console apart. It is easy though.
    Place in park.
Remove screws under theEPB switch and the4 rubber lining for the glasses holder.
    Pull up gear knob.
Pull up the top of the centre console. It is tight and held in by clips which just pull out.
The solenoid is on the drivers side of the gear lever.

D4 would be different but no more difficult.
    Someone with one may know.
