    D3 windscreen replacement cost?

    Gday...

Got a chip in the very bottom of the windscreen on the D3 - oncoming ute threw a rock and bing! I am currently in Biggenden QLD and would expect to go to Bundaberg.

Tried Windscreens O'Brien for an online quote - because it is within 5cm of edge of screen their equipment cannot fix chip - therefore replacement windscreen required.

The D3 has auto-wiper sensors (but no heating that I am aware of) and last year, when I also had a chip fixed, I was told a replacement screen was around $2,100. However, O'Briens have just quoted me $509 plus $25 for lower moulding - and depending when they replace the screen, maybe two side mouldings at $115 each. All up $764.

Does all this seem right? Very cheap from what I had been told was cost of a screen last year.

    Cheers
    John

    Seems very cheap.
I had a screen replaced by O'briens in Townsville in early '10, it was covered by insurance but when I picked the car up they said that it was good I had glass insurance because it would have cost me over $1200 otherwise.
So, unless there is rampant deflation on D3 windscreens on the East coast, that seems cheap as Chips!

I would enquire with them as to wether the screen is the standard screen or if it includes screen with sensors. I have heard that the sensors can be reused however they often dont last long when they are.

Mine was done prior to last owner having to replace for RWC. Windscreen repairer/supplier recommended by Lance Dixon LR. Has rain sensors and heated screen, cost previous owner around $900.

    Hi,
A few years back I had a Windscreen replaced on my D3 SE with sensors. Installed with replacement mouldings for less than $500.
At that time I had a $500 excess on my insurance and no free windscreen. Turned out that the Windscreen replacement was only $490 so no need to use insurance.

$440 fitted from Yass windscreens and Glass (small independant shop) 12 months ago for a non genuine screen. The rain sensor is transferred over from the old screen and I have had no issue with it since the screen replacement.
They reused the trim panels on my screen.

I had the windscreen replaced in my D3 in December last year - after it being hit by about 6 rocks thrown up by a cowboy truckie

Windscreens O'Brien charged me about $576, IIRC. They had to remove the LR RAI before being able to get at the off side A trim. So bit of extra work.

No problem with it so far - apart from them not pushing the upper trim piece home and it started resonating at 110km/h on the Hume Hwy. I pushed it all the way in and no problems since. Even on the 2900km trip from Sydney-Griffith-Mungo NP-Silverton -Kinchega NP-Ivanhoe-Hillston-Griffith-Sydney trip I did last week!

    replacement screen make

All you guys that have had replacements by Obriens, can you tell me if they used the correct OEM screen by pilkingtons or did they fit the chinese XYC brand ??

I've heard bad things about the XYC manufacturer and don't want to replace the screen with a pile of cr@p..

Going to call Obriens tomorrow and see what they use in Melbourne.

    All help appreciated..

    cheers

    Gday...

Since I posted the original on this thread, I had seven star chips in 2011 on QLD roads (all fixed by O'Briens or Novus) .... and then about September last year I got a big crack from a minute stone chip .... O'Briens changed screen in Townsille for me - insurance job.

That screen worked fine until in late December last year, in Victoria on a back road, I got another huge star chip right smack in front of my view - new screen required.

O'Briens in Sale Gippsland replaced it again under insurance. It has been in the vehicle now since Jan and up to now ... not a mark on it (SHHHHHHHH some one may hear) ..... and has not caused any issues.

O'Briens give an Australia-wide (life-time?) guarantee and I have talked with others who have found them excellent to deal with.

    Cheers - John
