Being a series 2 or 2a did it have any in the first place?? I don't think they came in until about when the series 3 was released?? (1970/71??)

It seems mine were unscrewed, mislaid, pinched etc at some stage in its life.
They were just screenprinted alloy...has anyone ever seen reproductions pop up for sale?
Cheers

IIAs didn't have VIN plates. They did have a plate with the date of manufacture and the chassis number though, however this is not necessary for roadworthy/rego. Technically the RWC inspectors are required to read the chassis number directly from the chassis on pre-vin vehicles.
Depends which model.Try e-bay .Item no. 270730827107

As others have said before me, the VIN system didn't come into being untill the 1980's, prior to that Land Rovers had a "Car No." or "Vehicle No." which is the same as the number stamped on the chassis. We usually call it a chassis number.
From 1972 vehicles in Australia also had a "Compliance Plate" which specified the chassis number, the date the plate was affixed, number of passengers and a list of ADR the vehicle complied with. Very few (if any) SIIa were affixed with a compliance plate!
If you wish to replace the aluminium plate that had the transfer box instructions, many of them have been reproduced and are available from Scott's Old Auto Rubbers Classic Repro- Land Rover

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
I also need to replace a missing body plate on my 57 series 1. Can anyone tell me which one its supposed to be or a pic of one if they could? No idea what it looks like.
Thanks
Have a scroll through this site: Land Rover Chassis and VIN Plates - Chassis ID & VIN Plates
He has all sorts
The first one is a Series 1 plate (not 80", I believe).
