Look for the servo relay box on top of the rear diff.
Ask 'em to put it on the ramp and get a lamp on it .

I know this was discussed sometime back but I can't find the thread.
I pick up the D4 next week and want to satisfy myself that the e-diff is installed. Is there anyway to do this?
Cheers.

I was gonna say, If it's got wires and stuff running to it, it's a fair bet it's got E-lectricity flowing to it....
The attached jpg below is from a cutaway of a model year 2005 LR3 electronic differential, but I do not thin the D4 units are much different.
More cutaway pictures are available at the link. There is an enlarge feature on the site such that the jpg's can be made bigger than most screens such that one has to scroll. In this case, you can look right into the stepper motor. Land Rover Electronic Rear Differential - Cutaway Creations

When new and clean, the actuator motor can be readily seen mounted on top of the diff by peering over the top of the right tyre at normal height, but is considerably more visible at off-road height. Its harder to distinguish when everything is covered in mud.

I have just picked up my new D4 with an EDiff and I am curious to know if it requires any manual operataion. I can't find any mention of it the owners manual and there appear to be no controls or indicators in the car. I have an SE model without the touch sscreen, so I don't get the drivetrain graphics shown in the manual.
One of the few annoying things about the Discovery is that neither the brochure nor the owners manual mention what things are standard fitting or optional extras, so as a new owner, it is difficult to determine what your vehicle does and doesn't do.
Cheers

						Al,
It's all automatic and you have no control over it. I believe you'll see an indicator on the dash when it's engaged.

The electronic rear differential control module controls the multi-plate clutch actuation. The control module is mounted on a bracket located on the LH C-pillar, behind the trim. If u don't have one of these you probably don't have rear ediff.
Cheers
Thanks for that - I have got the Ediff - I can see the servo motor sitting on the diff housing, (and I got charged for it) but I don't have the touch screen, so I will have to take the operation on trust. This is a very spohisticated peice of machinery compared to my 1998TDI.
Cheers
