    Britpart winches?

Hi, have just bought a 2010 110 off a mate and want to put a winch on.

Found a plain tubular bar without the A bar, through MM in the UK, and they seem to be pushing the Britpart or Champion winches - previously have had Warn Winches are these other brands any good? - really dont want to take any chances with reliability.

    Thanks

    Sam

The Britpart winches are just branded low end stuff. Very basic, pretty crude. Same as AEG or AWG...
Champion do the TDS (Branded as the Maico in Aus) - it's a damn good winch (also sold as the TDS Goldfish by David Bowyer). The rest of the Champion range is okay...

All in all it depends what you want and what you want to do

You only get what you pay for. I use winches at work a lot hydraulic 3-10T they are pretty dumb things really. They become more useful with snatch blocks.
I think a winch should have a variable speed control or as a minimum a 2 speed operation.
A reasonable winch would seem to weigh in at 35+kgs thats a lot of extra weight over the front of a vehicle when you might only use it once a year if that.
I cant say i have needed a winch in the last 25 yrs of getting about the place in a 4wd.
Tirfor winch is the go i think if it is likely you are only going to use it once in a blue moon.
I remember years ago coming across a fella in a Brumby with a boat winch on the front of his rig, he swore by it

Ibrought an Aldi winch a few years back, have used it 5 times & not let me down. One time was to pull very well kitted out 100 series cruiser.
