    Insurance Companies

We are in NZ and are shipping our 07 D3 TDV6 to Sydney next week to spend the winter touring around Oz.

I have got Comprehensive Insurance for it ok but I am having trouble getting an extended mechanical warranty.

We have an extended warranty for it here in NZ but it doesn't cover us over there.

Can anyone suggest an insurance company?

I rang Allianz today but they don't want to know unless it is through an accredited dealer.

    Thanks in advance
    Graeme

Yeah I thought it was only available through dealers at time of purchase.

Maybe at least join the NRMA as a Premium member services.
Premium Care NRMA Membership And Roadside Assistance | Membership Types| NRMA Motoring & Services
    This might help a bit!

I'm sorry I'm unable to help with your insurance inquiry - however I do have a question for you - how much does it cost to ship your D3 over to here ?
I'm sure a lot of members on here would be interested ... and possibly consider a reciprocal trip to the "land of the long white cloud" with their own vehicles (I know I certainly would)
cheers - and good luck with your insurance

It is costing us $1800 NZ , Tauranga to Sydney in 4 days.

We will have port charges when we get there, but obviously making sure the car is real clean will hopefully save us the cleaning charges.

That was one of the factors when we first looked at the trip..It equates to a couple of weeks hire.

Make sure it is "really clean" as they (quarantine) are very fussy, and try to be there for the "inspection" if possible - I have seen some pretty rough handling of peoples gear over the years (I used to be in Customs on the Melbourne waterfront years ago)
    good luck.

Ask a LR dealer if they will sell you a policy. However I think it may only be for vehicles before the factory warraty runs out.

a friend bought over from NZ 3 Riley Elves (mini's with a boot) in 2003 and quarantine charged him 15hrs @ $62 per hour to clean them even though they were clean

It would probably be an idea to see if you can get a "quarantine" clean in NZ with some sort of certificate.
This way it would be under your control.

I recently imported 4 x 17" rims from the UK & they charged me more for the clean than I paid for the wheels.

This was despite the fact that they were immaculate.

No more sea freight for me - obviously you do not have a choice.

    Regards

    Chuck
