Transfer Box help please!!!

Alright, firstly I have to admiot I am a complete gearbox dummy. Never had to much around with them but am rather handy and can put my hand to most things mechanical once explained in a simple manner.

I have an 85 County/Isuzu with a four speed box

(I am currently travelling slowly north toward QLD at grafton at the moment)

Two days ago I noticed after a two day highway run that "clean" oil was spraing onto the inside of my drivers side chasis so much so that samll droplets were getting on to the rear diff. I checked the oil in the Trnsfer box and she was still quite full. I have now degreased the area and cleaned it completly and found oil to be running down the box and oil seems to be spraying out of the breathing device mounted on the front of the transfer????????? Im not sure what that is exactly ? It looks similar to the vaccum advance I had on my old MK1 cortina?? What is this thing and is it a changeable item and where the hell is this oil coming from?

I will admit we had the truck on a mates property the other day getting stupid up some muddy hills revving the gut out of it while 4wd was engaged. We were also using low range quite a bit. Could I have blown a seal or something???? My LR mechanic filled her all up with penrite oils 7000km ago and no leaks were evedent until 6500km.

Please give me your ideas, Im quite worried about this box oil coming out?? I really want to knock this on the head as we have MANY miles to travel.

I'm sure help will be along shortly but the vacuum actuator is for your diff lock.

Are you suggesting that the tube has come off the diaphragm on the top of the transfer case? This is the CDL actuator in the LT95.

4WD is engaged all the time on one of those. They are permanent 4WD vehicles

If its the CDL actuator, its a vacuum operated diaphragm, and there should be 2 plastic vacuum lines on it going to the CDL switch/selector in the cabin.

If one of those lines is missing and the diaphragm is intact then you shouldn't get oil out of it.
Wondering if the breather on the transfer case is blocked, and its forcing the oil out thru a hole in the diaphragm when its hot.

You can check the diaphragm by putting a clean piece of plastic tube on it (some clear stuff would be ideal so you can see if there is any oil coming through), and then sucking on the tube. You should be able to suck a small amount and it build up vaccuum and hold. If it doesn't then the diaphragm is probably stuffed.

I'd be checking the breather in the transfer. It runs from the top of the transfer case down the LH side of the main box and into the engine bay. You should be able to blow quite freely down the tube if you stick your mouth on it.

Possibly the seal on the front output shaft. It will throw oil onto the CDL actuator body if it is leaking. Sounds like a possibility after some serious mud running as they are prone to getting mud under the mud shield and onto the seal area. There shouldn't be any way that transfer case oil can leak into the CDL actuator as it has a gasket and O ring on the shaft. You can check if the CDL actuator is working properly by locking the Centre Diff, and the light should come on the dash. If it works ok the diaphragm is not broken.

And if it is the seal on the front of the output shaft? is this a dramatically hard job to do? do I need to seperate the transfer case?? I will do some checks on the CDL actuator and get back to you guys...

Ha ha I do realise it's constant 4wd. What I should have said is with the center diff lock engaged.
