    Towing mirrors for Disco 3

Does anyone have information re towing mirrors for Discovery 3 - I have just ordered a van and will collect it in about 4 months. Is there a good aftermarket mirror available in Australia??

    Any comments appreciated.

Depends a bit on your van.
I just use some of the rubber strapped clip ons that hang off the original mirrors.

    Hi Bill

We are using the Ora strap on mirrors on our D4 (I assume the mirrors on the D3 would be much the same). Make sure you get the magnetic arm supports though. We tried them without the support arms and they wobbled all over the place - but are rock solid with the support arms.

We tow a van that has a travel width of 2.47m - can see behind the van quite well.

    Hope this info helps.

Having a camera fitted to the rear of the van with a decent sized screen in the cabin so you can clearly see what is happening behind you when driving makes life a lot easier and safer as well.

When I get my D3 back next week I will be going through this exercise of finding a good camera and screen rather then spending lots of money on mirrors that often are a pain in the backside.

    cheers,
    Terry

I have just had a set of suction tow mirrors (flat/convex) sent out from Towsure in the UK at a price of 58.76 gbp with converts to around au$85.00 I received them only six days after my phone order to them. Magnificent service. Give them a call after 6.00pm Melbourne time for personal shopping.

    Hi all
A question about the Ora mirrors on your D4, what happens when you lock the car and the mirrors fold in?.
I have had my D4 SE for less than a month , what happens to the support arms.
I have a old set of the Ora mirrors and they are useless without the extra support arms. also I have mirrors from my last 4WD a patrol, but they aren't suitable as the strap hooks to the botton of the door and the top wedges into the rubber at the bottom of the glass, This would wreck plastic strip on the bottom of the door.
I would be interested in any towing mirrors to suit the D4

    Hi David

We have the D4 2.7l TDV6, so the mirrors don't fold in when the car is locked. I believe you can have this function switched off at the dealers - not sure though.

As mentioned in my earlier response, the Ora mirrors without the support arms were terrbile, but were rock solid with them. But, they would not be suitable for your mirrors if they fold in automatically as they are fixed solidly in place - something would get damaged for sure.

    Towing Mirrors

Hi folks. i am currently in Katherine on our three month LSL trip and towing a 2009 Jayco Swan Camper trailer behind my D4SE.

My Disco folds his mirrors so i bought a set of mirror mounted tow mirrors from Autobarn and thus far they have been good and allow the car mirrors to fold.

I bought some 3M autofilm paint protector stuff (clear and very tenanious adhesive) for the car mirrors to prevent (hopefully) paint scuffing.

My only issue thus far is the driver side mirror getting swatted in by the wind from Road Trains but slowing to 90km/h and moving left has generally stopped this (plus the positive thought energy of the kids)
