    What is it?

We were given this plant last year with the comment that it was thought to be an australian exotic.
Does any of you botonists know what it is?
    Thanks

One of the Port Wine 'types' of Magnolia. There are a range of cultivars. Flowers also vary a bit depending on where they are growing. Do a Google search on "Port Wine Magnolia".

Is there a gardening section on here? Might be the one section AULRO hasn't got!

My vote was a magnolia but I see those in the know have already jumped in In September Araluen has some gorgeous displays of them, one of my favourites. (I'm only mentioning that as you're local )
