Oil leak rear diff pinion, Puma

    Hi all,
So my 90 has clocked up 8000 ks and i noticed oil weeping from the rear diff pinion (hope thats the right terminology).
I have already got on to the dealer, who said Land rover will cover the cost of the repair so NBD there.

Has anyone else had this issue, is it common?

Hi cam. Yep my 110 had this problem when it was new. They took three cracks at it before it was fixed. The last time I was told they fitted a new pinion flange and seal and since then I've done about 22k km's and no leaks.

The service manger suggested that the flange may need replacing as well, previous issues with grooving or something along those lines.
    Thanks

Mine weeps on a long hard trip but because I had a locker fitted its my problem the dealer says. Can't see why the pinion seal is stuffed by fitting a locker but my problem.

Three replacements for me. However the 1992 110 tdi has been doing it for years. Comes and goes no matter how many times it's been attended to. Puma has been good now for sometime.

2010 Puma, 27,000km, seal been replaced twice. The second time I suggested they replace the flange as well as when they replaced it the first time they didn't clean anything and if dirt gets in it will score the flange surface and you will always have a 'weep'. They told me that the problem was caused by my OME suspension?!? Hasn't leaked since, fingers still crossed. Talk to almost any independent Landy mechanic and they will tell you this is a common problem - Peter Brown has done the seal on his 130 5 times I think. Some do some don't though, no one seems to know why as this diff when fitted to Rangies just about never leaks......
