Ive had both....
it depends on which method of setup you go.
if you put a series III clutch onto a II box with a spacer it will be a bit harder to operate and more difficult to hold the friction point depending on how well you space up and adjust the clutch mechanism. Done right all the linkages will be at the point where they give you the most mechanical advantage when the clutch is in the friction point and it will work nicely, get it wrong and it stacks against you.
IF you put a series III bell housing with a III clutch onto a II box you wont notice much difference.
