Hello all and a question about first service

    Hi All,

Ive just purchased my first Land Rover in the form of a freelander 2 SD4 SE. All went very smoothly and the wife and i are extremely happy with it - as its first trip, we went over to dubbo zoo. Now i will need to pry it from my wifes hands when we go on long trips :P

I have a question regarding service intervals on a MY11 Freelander 2. The dealer tells me that the first service is at 12000Km or 6 months however i hear around the place that it would be an idea to take it in after the first 1200Km.

Is there any value in a very early service to check that all is going well?

    Cheers.

............... dunno much about the Freelander 2 but would say that your 12k service would be to see if all is as it should be ie: no leaks pressures ok etc etc etc

A waste of time and money to service after 1200 kms. Stick to the LR service intervals, your warranty covers everything should there be a problem. If there is an obvious problem then ask them to look at it. They are a good car.

Drop the oil earlier if not at half the recommended intervals.

Its cheap insurance and prevents wear and tear as its quite cheap and easy to do yourself.

I do it to all my cars and have always done.
Short trips in cars especially, perhaps a oil analysis will be a good sign but just do it.
Our Golf has a 25k km service interval, there is no way I leave the oil in there that long.

Thats just me but has worked well so far.

Overseas the service intervals are 12 month 24,000 kms. Nobody will convince me that the climate is extreme in Sydney or Melbourne....more like perfect compared to sub zero winters in Europe.

My feelings are to err on the cautious side for the first year of ownership when it comes to services. Although there is no official running in period, waiting for 12 months or 24k for the first service does not seem right.
I put my FL2 in for services at 6k, 12k and 24k. From now on will stick to one a year or every 24k as per the book.
