Avg Fuel consumption per 100 km of 2.6 petrol
What is the average fuel consumption of a landrover 2.6 ltr engine? Someone has asked me this question & i unfortunately haven't driven my car on a trip long enough to work it out.
Thank you

A long time ago I had a 2.6 series III LWB - and the fuel consumption was A LOT/100km. Seriously, around the 20L/100k mark. Others will surely be able to give more accurate details, but the purpose of this reply is to forewarn you on leaning out the mixture to provide better fuel economy. If you do that you run the risk of burning (melting) the #1 exhaust valve. It's better to run a little rich with that engine. And, resist temptation to travel at 100lk unless you have an overdrive. Whilst you won't necessarily break anything, the better economy mode is about 90k with the 4 speed box.

The best I have heard is 17lt/100k my average is about 19lt/100k running 95or 98 premium not e10. E10 drops to around 22lt/100k i dont think it is worth the price difference

fuel excessive
The 2.6 flat tray I once owned, gave a consistent 20L/100k .

My 2A with the SIX, did 14mpg, no matter how I drove it. With a 2ton trailer it did 12mpg.

G'day Folks
The average for the 2.6ltre Series 2a/3 was approx 12-15 miles to the gallon, the army worked on 9-12mpg (fully loaded with full kitted personel in the rear)
These motors worked hard over long distances WILL burn exhaust valves, and the rear head bolts have a habit of working a little loose, the ones that are hard to tighten with the motor in situ with out a crows's foot.
cheers
