D4 2.7 service intervals

The book states 24,000 km or 12 months. Austral say 12,000 km or 6 months. Which is correct?

Regardless of what the book says, I get my oil & filter changed every 12,000 Km. IMHO I feel that the first oil & filter change is the most important. Dont wait until 24,000 Km for this one.
Alot can happen in 24,000 Klm's, so if something is on its way out etc, it can be picked up earlier.

As some of you would know I had a new TDV6 long engine fitted not that long ago under used car warranty.

I booked it in for filter and oil at 5,000 k's. I'll have it done again at 10,000 k's, then settle down to every 10,000 k's after. Oil and filters are very cheap insurance as far as I'm concerned.

The previous owner only did oil changes at the required intervals, even though the engine needed to be changed because of a servicing fault when they pulled it apart after they had fitted my new engine for gratis they found a number of issues that would have lead me to believe it might not have lasted much longer anyway.

Remember the same LR book says you don't have to get your auto serviced and look at how much that is costing many D3 owners now.

Again it was not that long ago that the recommended service interval for diesels was 5000kms and 10000kms for petrol engines, so what has changed?
I my self would change my oil every 10000kms as the oil soots up from the combustion process. No way would I leave it 24000kms if you want good engine life.

Thanks for the replies but the question was not when a service should be done for good practise, but rather what was the manufacturer's recommendations re service intervals.

I suppose I'm a bit suspicious of LR dealers and their motives for wanting it done every 6 months as opposed to 12 months as per the book.

FYI SWMBO's Golf is every 12 months or 20,000 km and it seems to be doing ok after 2.5 ears of ownership. It's a complex little beast too being a 1.4 litre turbo petrol with a 7 speed DSG box.

From LR UK, the service intervals are 12mths/24000km.

Now, LR Aust recommend a 6mth/12000km "health check" to supplement the main services as our conditions are generally considered harsher than over in the UK. The health check is nothing more than a basic check over but a lot of owners also have an oil change done at the same time.

Yes, works for me. I don't tow a 3 ton van all over the country, I do 99% of my miles as urban/hwy and might spend on average 2 days a month off road. Did 100,000 km in the D3 in 4.5 years with no trany issues.
