    Superwinch PTO hyraulic winch

Does anyone have any experience of the UK brand "Superwinch" with LT230 hydraulic drive?

Today I have been offered the winch that was originally fitted to my 6X6 Defender, it was removed as it formed part of the equipment for the cherrypicker kit. It now seems that the estate is happy to liquidate items individually.

Is the Superwinch brand worth having? How much would one be worth now that it's 20 years old, the cable appears in good condition with little wear.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Red Winch

Not an answer to your questions, Diana, but here's (Red Winches) the updated version of a very robust UK made hydraulic winch.

BTW these are being itorsmported by Ben Robinson of Modern Motors, Dungog (Modern Motors Dungog: Mahindra Dealership and Land Rover Specialists) who were one of the generous sponsors at last weekend's NSW Gathering of the AULRO 10th Anniversary celebrations.

No experience but the NZers appear to love them. Watch an episode of 4WDTV & you'll see any NZ segment shows the majority of the comp field running Superwinches.

    Thanks guy's

Looking with my inexperienced eye, the winch appears to be a PTO design, but instead of a PTO shaft a hydraulic motor is mounted on the back side of the front cross member and a short shaft drives to the winch gearbox.

This may be because the Defender needed the PTO to drive the hydraulics for the cherry picker, so instead of adding another PTO, they added a hydraulic motor to the winch.

Now I need to decide if I want to pay the price they're asking.

Oh, you haven't bought it yet .

In that case, they're crap. Give me their contact details & I'll pick it up for scrap metal prices.

Then I can finally use my PTO pump.

    Thanks Bob

Looking at the site it appears to be a worm drive unit, so I'd imagine would winch all day at a constant speed and would be a capacity from 10,000 to 14,000 lbs. Wish I took a closer look at the capacity on the ID plate.

You're probably correct about them being crap, I hear there is a recall notice on the mounting for this one? At least that what I've been informed.
