    2010 / 2011 RRS?

I just got a letter from BMW offering a decent offer for a trade in on my X5. Would not do it for an other X5, but I am considering a TDV6 RRS. There is a "New" 2010 built, Australian compliance plate 2011 RRS for sale in Cairns for under what as the X5 are going for. From what I read the 2012 models are not going to be much different than the current ones. Does anyone know of anything that I should look out for or wait for? The "Basic" one is well appointed, and has everything I could want. Seems larger than the E53 X5, and drives well. The air shocks seem like a weak point. Are they holding up well under use?? Want to use is to tow a 2000kg boat. The Defender does the job, but an auto would be nice.

    Thanks for any help

Air suspension... Weak point??? Not at all!

They are generally as reliable as a very reliable thing.

The RRS can be heavy on bushes but otherwise they're a cracking car both on & off-road.

The 2012MY will have an 8spd auto IIRC but otherwise it's all about the same.

2000kg boat trailer... It'll barely notice it.

Just out of curiosity, how will the air suspension handle the weight of the boat trailer? Does it self level? Sorry about the questions, I'm used to "basic" I plan on still keeping the 110 Defender, and I have installed heavy duty springs all around. Hence one of the reasons my wife does not like to ride in it. I was really impressed with the TDV6 in the RRS. I would love to drop one in the Defender, along with the transmission. Now that would be fun!!

Any other things I should be looking for in the 2010 RRS??

    Cheers,

    Ken

The RRS like the D3/D4 has a tow rating of 3500kg and a tow ball weight of 350kg so will tow OK - will auto level.

I am not sure if the 10/11 RRS has the same tow stability control that the D4 has but I assume so.

    Cheers

Be aware the MY10 RRS halogen high beam head lamps shine up in the trees. Cannot be adjusted down without adjusting low beam as well. LRA do not consider this to be a problem.
