Tour of duty: Mercedes v Toyota v Land Rover v Jeep
"That leaves us with the Land Rover Defender. Bloodied, bruised and worn out, basic throughout but with off-road ability beyond its looks"
Not really a surprise but refreshing to read.![]()
Hang on "the FJ40" helped open up the outback????? Wot rot.
Even the B&W film "A town like Alice" featured a series one Land Rover and I'm pretty sure that Tom Kruze didn't drive a FJ40!
Even the comment the Army is phasing out it's Land Rovers omits the fact that Land Rover Australia under FoMoCo didn't even tender and Toyota lost the Army after only one little affair with Norforce.
However the boxy, all too small footwell comment is true enough.![]()
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Toyotas proud millitary history.
I think your being a bit too technical rockyroad![]()
I worked with a girl who grew up in Alice and her father, a surveyor on the projects like Gun Barrel Highway etc with Beadel, was never very flattering when Len Beadell's name was mentioned.
I'll say no more of an iconic Australian, who most definately did a huge amount of work surveying in SA and the NT.
