RRS TDV6 60,000 Km Service

My RRS is coming up to 60,000km - this is an 'O' service so is just an oil and oil filter change.

In addition I am planning to change diff oil, tfr case oil, basic gearbox oil change (just drain and refill - no sump change or filter change), brake pads, change brake fluid, test specific gravity of the coolant, clean around compressor and hand brake - the remainder is just a visual inspection of hoses, belts and joints.

Any other points to look at - noting I intend to do a gearbox sump change and mega flush at 90,000km.

I can never see the point of changing fluids but not replacing the relevant filter at the same time. Is a filter swap such a big deal considering the benefits gained from both new fluid and new filter.

I assume you are talking about the transmission filter (engine oil filter will be changed) - well yes it is a major issue as the transmission sump will then have to be replaced which is no easy job. You would normally change the filter when the transmission oil is changed and the sump replaced - I am not changing the transmission oil - draining the oil just via the drain plug only changes about a 1/3 of the oil in the gearbox - just "freshening" up the oil until I do the full service at 90,000km, noting according to the service schedule that this is not due until the car is 10years old or has covered 240,000km.

I guess you do not have a D3/RRS.

Worth checking the air & pollen filters. For what they cost, I change the air filter every service now and have 2 spare pollen & air filters turning up soon (when my house contents container *finally* shows up here in Melb ). Chucked the K&N in the bin, I'm not 100% certain but I think it affected the MAF sensor so for piece of mind it's not worth the hassle.

Also take a pry bar to the bushes & balljoints, check for play that may be getting ready to manifest itself. The rear droplinks are worth a jiggle as well.
