			Speed wobbles

I have just finished a few jobs on the 90 including a new steering box (the old one had masses amounts of play in it). I took the car out for test drive and it was getting the 'speed wobbles' where the streering wheel started shaking and only stopped when i slowed down.

This happened a few times when I hit about 55kph +.

I have been under and checked the steering system and there is nothing loose as far as i can tell.

Any advice on where I should start looking?

 Thanks,

 David

Did you rotate your wheels? They might be out of balance.

Did you replace your Tie-rod ends by chance?? Check your Toe-in , or should I say Toe out . The Defender should have 0 to about -ve 2mm toe in or +2mm toe out . 1mm toe-in is enough to give your Def the wobbles !!

					Thanks guys,

The wheels went back on the same side. i think.

The only part in the steering set up that i changed was the steering box itself.

I will go over everything with the torque wrench again tonight just to be doubly certain i didnt miss something and check the toe in/out situation too.

Turns out one of the bushes on the panhard rod had collapsed. It was obvious when I pushed the body of the car from side to side.

Took the rod into FWD motors in Brisbane and got new bushes put in both ends, supplied and fitted $11 for the pair!!
